Talking after a fight

Unresolved hurt closes the door to closeness. How to cool down, repair, forgive, and talk honestly about intimacy after an argument.

Married couple at home, Talking about sex lesson

Conflict is part of every marriage. Two people who share a home, money, children, and a bed will disagree, sometimes sharply. What matters is not whether couples fight but how they repair. Intimacy and conflict are closely connected: unresolved hurt tends to close the door to closeness, and closeness offered too quickly can feel like the hurt is being skipped over. This lesson looks at how to talk after a fight in a way that rebuilds trust.

Do not let the sun go down on your anger

Saint Paul writes, "do not let the sun go down on your anger" (Ephesians 4:26). Pope Francis turns this into simple advice for married couples, encouraging them never to let the day end without making peace, even with a small gesture (Amoris Laetitia 104). This does not mean every problem must be solved before bedtime. It means the relationship is restored, even if the issue itself needs more time.
